Hi all, Hope you're all well and training is going ok? My TomTom GPS watch has died and gone to watch heaven, but in honesty I was never happy with it to begin with as it always lost signal, lost battery despite a full night of charge etc. Therefore I'm looking to buy a new GPS watch, and soon as I have Rome marathon next week!!! Do any of you use one/could recommend one please? I've been looking at the Garmin watches as they do some targeted toward triathletes? Thanks in advance, Emma

I have a garmin Vivo active which I love, however, it does not measure open water swimming. My husband has garmin 910xt which does all three disciplines and has enough battery life for a full iron man. Hope this helps, xxx

Hi Emma,
I've got the Garmin 920xt and can't fault it. I've been using it since the beginning of the year and took the plunge after my 610 died. I shopped around and managed to get it for cheaper than what I would have gone for which is the 620 or 630. I've used it in the pool a couple of times and it is my friend on my usual runs. It's a bit chunky compared to a running watch so I would take a look at it before buying, especially online. It is much little than any GPS watch I've wore before. The battery life lasts over a week for me, which includes 4 GPS sessions of over an hour each. If I haven't used GPS it lasts much longer as expected. I find the GPS locks on really quickly, which is a massive help on those cold mornings (a thing of the past at the moment) and it's more accurate than my 610. The stats that come with it can be a little bit of an overkill and always pose the question "what if I..". Overall for the price, the activities and features covered I won't be looking at any replacements for a long time (touch wood it doesn't die on me).
Be warned I am a little wedded to my Garmins, I've had one since my 405. I have tried others but nothing really compared for me.
Let me know if you have any questions on it, more than happy to answer.
Thanks
Kev

Hi Emma Sorry for not replying sooner - am in South africa so not online as much as i would be at home. I've got a garmin 910xt which has always served me well. Does swim, bike and run quite well - you can get an adaptor so you can clip it onto your bike. Chunky so i would only wear it for training but have never had any complaints with it. Again i've only ever used gamins so can't comment on other brands. GOOD LUCK in Rome! Is is this weekend or next? Lucy

Hi everyone, Thank you so much for your help! I ended up going for the 910xt and it's brilliant, great watch so thanks for the recommendations Rome was yesterday and the toughest marathon I've done. I was on track for my 3:45 but the heat killed me and I ended up walking most of the last 5k and did it in 4:08 it's hard to train for heat, hills and cobbles when you live in a relatively flat part of Britain! It's made me a lot more determined though and I'm back to training for our event with swimming tonight! Looking forward to seeing you all on the 24th! Emma

Good work Emma! You learn so much more from the tough days than you do from the days when everything feels easy! Well done for toughing it out. Racing in the heat is so hard. I find it so much harder to race when it's hot. Massive well done! Hope you're recovering ok. Ease off on the running until your legs feel semi-normal again! Lucy
