Hello! I thought this creating this forum would be a great way to share ideas, concerns etc and perhaps get to know each other a bit too! So if you have any questions or ideas about anything feel free to post on here, either to each other or directly to me if you have questions!

Hello Lucy and Team!
I'll sneak in first just to say I'm really looking forward to this challenge and meeting everyone on the introduction day and training days. It would be great to hear some of your stories - what made you sign up for this and what triathlon experience have you got under your belt already?
One thing that has taken me by surprise since signing up is the world of Nutrition... There are so many pills, powders, bars, gels etc to get you through your training!
Giles

Hi Giles! So glad you've been brave enough to write on here first. I thought no-one would want to be the first! Nutrition is a mine-field. It's one of the things i'll talk about to you guys about - it's easy to get bogged down with all the marketing from the tri companies! But what you eat in the race does make a difference and it's really important to practice what you'll use in the race during training. We're giving you some High 5 nutrition - i use their energy drinks and gels when i race. But i also treat myself to mars bars on the bike! One of the best bits about doing long distance triathlon is how much you can eat each day normally!! I eat very healthily most of the time but if i want a treat like ice-cream (most days) or chocolate then I just have it. I'll talk a bit about refuelling properly after sessions too - that makes a big difference in terms of how quickly you recover. Lucy

Hi Lucy,
That's great I will definintely look forward to hearing your guidance on all of this!
I have been warned about the marketing side of nutrition from a few people now, although I have still managed to fill a cupboard with things like BCAA powder, fish oil tablets, vitamin tablets, zinc & magnesium tablets, carb and protein powder, to name a few items... so i'm not sure how successful I have been in taking on that advice.
And yes, I am absolutely loving how much I can eat already! Trying to keep it all healthy but, as you said, the odd snack here or there comes with no guilt anymore.

For what it's worth i use fish oil (Nordic oil) and Biestmilch (colostrum) and protein powder but that's it. If you have any specific questions re nutrition just ask!

Hello everyone on team Lucy! Hope the training plan is going well. Up and ready for a swim this morning and a run later this afternoon. Looking forward to rest day tomorrow! Pleased with how I've managed the plan alongside my full time teaching job so far, can tell I'm missing out on a bit of sleep though!

Hello! I'm looking forward to meeting you all! I have marathon experience but no triathlon experience so the swimming is the hardest part for me! How is everyone else finding training? Are we all excited? Emma

Hi emma! The open water swim day in April should be really helpful with this. I would definitely recommend in investing in a few swim lessons if you're not confident at swimming. I really wish i'd done this when i'd started. I taught myself front crawl which didn't really work! I would have saved myself so much time and effort if i'd had a few lessons beforehand...Swimming is so technical - once you have the technique it's relatively easy. But it's an unnatural movement so very difficult to learn without a bit of technique advice. Lucy

Hi Emma!
Marathon experience sounds good - what marathon(s) have you raced in out of interest?
I struggled with trainng last week as I just felt exhausted every day, but this recovery week has helped a bit. First traithlon event coming up in a few weeks, so it will be good to get some proper racing experience.
Lucy - i have had a couple of swimming lessons now and they have been really useful so thank you for the advice.
See you all on Monday if you are heading to London.
Giles

Looking forward to seeing some of you in London on Monday. I hope you'll give me some feedback there (or on here if you can't make it) as to how you're getting on with the training plan so I can advise you on how to adapt it if necessary! Just writing the next 4 week block now... But as i said if you feel it's not working for you (too easy or too hard) please don't be scared to let me know. I've just got back from a lovely long ride with a nice cafe stop. Feels like spring is on its way! Lucy

Hi Lucy. Just on my way to the Silverstone half marathon. Can't make it on Monday due to my wirk commitments. Training going well so far, managing to do most of the sessions each week. Pleased with progress so far. Thanks for all your help.

Hi Lucy,
Great to meet you and the team yesterday - it was a relief to hear that others are coming into this with as little experience as I am!
Quick question for you regarding the training plan. You have the weekend sessions down as a bike ride on Saturday and a run on Sunday. Is it ok at this stage to do them both in one session to get used to how it feels to jump off the bike straight into a run? I have been doing this and then swimming on Sunday mornings.
Thanks
Giles

Hiya. Great to meet those of you who could make it yesterday. I'm impressed with how far you travelled! Tritree - what's your real name? Hello! How did you get on at Silverstone? Giles - if you can already put the bike and run together into one session that's impressive! Yup - you can definitely do that. The Sunday run is going to gradually get longer though so you may not want to do that when it does...Most age group triathletes would do their long ride on the saturday with a short run off it and then a longer run on Sunday. But there is no reason why you can't combine the two at the moment. You must be much fitter than you were letting on last night! I thought it would be far too daunting to put the two together to start with. But as with everything on the plan - it's just a guide. So fit it in around life!

Hi Lucy, my real name is Theresa. I managed 2:15:41 at Silverstone. Bit gutted I didn't sneak in under 2:15! Was supposed to get up and run this morning but stayed in bed instead so a little annoyed with myself. Looking forward to my Easter holidays.
