Hi Lucy. I've really started to suffer with IT band pain after I have run. It doesn't hurt while I am running but as soon as I stop and for a couple of days afterwards. Last night, I had to stop swimming because they were so painful. Any advice on how I can avoid this problem apart from not running or how I could adapt the training plan and still finish the race on 12th June? Thanks Theresa

I have a foam roller, I do lots with it after my strength sessions. I had a sports massage last night and they're feeling better already. I've booked another in a couple of weeks. Going to have tonight off and do some stretching and foam rolling instead. Thanks for your help.

Good news Teresa. You sound very pro! It sounds like loosening off the soft tissue will sort this out really quickly. It's a sign you've been training hard! Never feel guilty about missing sessions if you have niggles. That's being sensible! Lucy

Hi Theresa,
I've had similar problems which my physio tells me are IT band related. The foam roller has really helped, but the pain and discomfort still comes back on longer runs.
Do you ever get a strange aching feeling when you run? This is how it starts for me, and then it tends to hurt afterwards.
Fingers crossed this will get better for you.
Giles

Hi Giles, while I am running, I don't get any pain. If I have to stop to cross a road, it hurts to get started again and then for a couple of days after I have a limp. It's a strange one. Rest and foam rolling seems to keep it in check. Probably won't be able to walk in work the day after Staffs but I've warned the head teacher and the kids at school so hopefully they'll be sympathetic! See you at the bike recce. Theresa
